Geerts Gone Wild – Wilders’ Hate Crimes Trial

Geert Wilders‘ hate crimes trial just recently began and below is a speech he gave at a pre-trail hearing:

Geert Wilders, the Dutch far-Right MP, has demanded that his race hate trial should hear evidence from the fanatic who used the Koran to justify killing the director of an anti-Islamic film.

It marked an incendiary opening to the landmark case that has divided the Netherlands over the limits of freedom. Mr Wilders, 46, who is accused of incitement and discrimination, asked for 18 witnesses to be called in his defence, including Mohammed Bouyeri, the man who stabbed and shot Theo Van Gogh in an Amsterdam street in 2004.

The Van Gogh murder left a deep scar on the national conscience. It helped to change the mood of tolerance of Islam, and boosted Mr Wilders’s popularity.

Mr Wilders, whose Party for Freedom came second in the European elections last summer, faces a 70-page charge sheet covering five counts of breaking Dutch law in more than 100 public statements — for example, by likening the Koran to Hitler’s Mein Kampf and calling for an end to the “Islamic invasion”. He could be fined or jailed if convicted.

The alleged offences include Mr Wilders’s film Fitna, which shows images of 9/11 and beheadings interspersed with verses from the Koran. It ends with a clip of the controversial Danish cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad.

At the opening day of the trial the prosecution objected to the request to hear from Bouyeri, and the panel of four judges adjourned until February 3 to consider which witnesses to call. “This case is about more than Mr Wilders,” Bram Moszkowicz, his lawyer, told the court. “It touches us all. It is such an important and principled question that could have far-reaching consequences.”

Mr Moszkowicz argued that the witnesses Mr Wilders wanted to call would prove that what he said was not simply inoffensive but true. He suggested that Bouyeri, a dual Moroccan-Dutch national, would be key to the case because he was a fervent Muslim who carried a Koran during his trial and defended his crime by claiming that Islam permitted violence against unbelievers.

And of course, now is a perfect time to repost FITNA, the short film he’s being tried for:

First of the YouTube series: Peter H. Gilmore on Art and Discrimination

My goal with these is to reuse material I already have in a new venue to try to pull a wider audience for my work, obviously…  I don’t expect the podcast and my books to be wildly popular, but I think there’s a larger audience than what I currently have.

Set up a few photoshop templates for text and images, and change the elements out for each interview subject. Excerpt a 3-5 minute audio segment and then adjust timing of template elements to match the time of the audio. Upload and fill in all the information.

I thought it was necessary for a lead-in and lead-out audio that could stay the same from one video to another to go along with the visuals before and after the . I don’t like that I use the word “excerpt” twice in the audio portion of the lead-in, and “favorite” twice in the lead out. The latter is less annoying than the former. I will probably rerecord the lead-in audio.

KevinISlaughter.com serves as a testing ground for things I may or may not do on the UA site. I install plug-ins, etc. here before using them on UnderworldAmusements.com.

I’m also getting frustrated with Facebook not displaying content in my posts correctly, from the podcast players to flickr photo stuff, but I don’t know if there’s anything I can do about it besides putting notes like “This ___ may not show up properly in some feeds, please view the original post”.

William Mortensen / YouTube Help Needed

Is there anyone with the time and ability who would be willing to splice audio and still images together into 10 minute videos to post on YouTube? I want to get some 2-10 minute excerpts of interviews from the UA Variety Hour podcast up but I can’t take all that on in addition to everything else. I would provide the segments already cut down and still images, you’d need to be able to edit them together and output a clean playing video, minimal effects, and uploaded directly to the account.

You can see what I’ve done recently, here:

Some prior experience needed, if you’ve got some work already on YouTube, send me a link via the contact page. You should be able to work with PSD files with transparencies.

No hard deadlines, 6 or so segments to start, one or two videos a month at most.

Nevermind, it’s getting done.
