I will be posting projects here on my blog and making use of my flickr account again. I also had to set up a SoundCloud account, and will need to use my Vimeo account.

So, this is a head’s up you may be seeing some “student work” showing up here in the next few months.

First assignment:

Phonar Creative Workshop Task 1:

Completion date: 13th October 2011 (first session back)

Garner a portfolio of 8-10 images from different photographers whose work inspires you. Choose carefully, as though your edit was going to appear as a spread in a printed magazine, you may choose to lay them out as such if you wish, with attention to scale, pace and flow etc.

The portfolio must directly address a theme of your choosing – it could be a personal theme or a topical one, the choice is yours.

I’ve been meaning to build one of these for a while, but upgrading my camera and my wife starting her etsy store and needing me to photograph stuff for it gave me the impetus.

Some cheap wood, a scrap of PVC sheeting, a $4 white sheet from the thrift shop and here’s what I’ve got so far:

I’m not getting enough light, and since I’d broken a few bulbs in the past few days I had 3 different types of bulbs in the 4 lights.

I clamped the sheet on because I’m not sure of the best way to secure it, or even if that’s the right kind of sheet to use. The point is to diffuse the light, but I don’t want to block too much of it either.

I may need to partially cover the front of the box to bounce some of the light back in.

Stephen Kasner talks about art and objective measures of talent with host Kevin I. Slaughter. Stephen was one of the nine artists featured in the show. Germophilia was open from 8-7-09 until 9-20-09.
Kasner studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art, earning a BFA in 1993 with a major in Illustration, and double minors in Drawing and Photography. His interest in marrying art to music blossomed very early on, and has continually surfaced throughout his career. He has contributed visuals to many eclectic musicians and albums, including Martin Grech, SUNN 0))), darsombra, Khlyst, Integrity, Lotus Eaters, Justin Broadrick/Final, Skullflower, Runhild Gammelsæter, and many others. Kasner pursues his own personal exploration and experimentation in music under the moniker, Blood Fountains, and is currently collaborating with Dwid Hellion and Jacob Bannon as a trio, Irons.
Stephen Kasners work has been exhibited worldwide, with exhibitions in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Berlin, and throughout Australia. His work has been featured in dozens of newspapers and magazines, including The Washington Post, SECONDS Magazine, Parable Visions, NY Arts, Descent, and most recently, Coilhouse.
His first solo exhibition in New York City was held at Last Rites Gallery in February 2009.
This is an excerpt from the Underworld Amusements Variety Hour podcast.

Is there anyone with the time and ability who would be willing to splice audio and still images together into 10 minute videos to post on YouTube? I want to get some 2-10 minute excerpts of interviews from the UA Variety Hour podcast up but I can’t take all that on in addition to everything else. I would provide the segments already cut down and still images, you’d need to be able to edit them together and output a clean playing video, minimal effects, and uploaded directly to the account.

You can see what I’ve done recently, here:

Some prior experience needed, if you’ve got some work already on YouTube, send me a link via the contact page. You should be able to work with PSD files with transparencies.

No hard deadlines, 6 or so segments to start, one or two videos a month at most.

Nevermind, it’s getting done.

Now, so that this isn’t just a call for help – some samples from the master William Mortensen:
