Book Nerd :: Ayn Rand, Florence King, Clausewitz On War, Sacks talks to the deaf

Strange… I don’t see a way to rotate this damn photo in WordPress. Oh well, break yer goddamn neck.

Few books from Ukazoo. I was thrilled to have my Nexus One with me, as Ukazoo has a computer and all their books cataloged. I was able to pull up my Amazon.com wish list and search for books one by one.

“The Florence King Reader” by … take a guess.

“One War” – Clauswitz

“Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand” Leonard Piekoff

“Seeing Voices” Oliver Sacks

I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read from Florence King, and I’d be curious to see what you think of this one. She certainly has a deliciously misanthropic streak.

Oh, and your picture’s sideways. ;)

The first book I read of hers was, of course, “With Charity Toward None”. It’s great, a must read.
Then, as you’d expect I picked up “Southern Ladies and Gentlemen”, and being a southerner, I loved it.
In 2007 I picked up “Reflections in a Jaundiced Eye” and it wasn’t as strong as the other two, but it’s a collection of essays, a different type of book. There are some good pieces in it.
The “Reader” excerpts from all three of the above, plus a lot more.
Anyone who would write the following line in a mainstream conservative magazine in an article on abortion should get what the kids call “props”:
“The sight of a drooling mental defective makes me recoil in disgust…”

Check out Piekoff’s “The Ominous Parallels” as well. A much less didactic writer than Rand in my opinion. And what could top “When Sisterhood was In Flower?”
