Baltimore police say John Wagner and Lavelva Merritt were “hunting to rob someone” on Sunday night. …
The Jupiter man, a Johns Hopkins University researcher with dreams of finding the cure to breast cancer, was walking on Baltimore’s north side talking on the phone with his mother.
Wagner and Merritt found their perfect, distracted “someone,” police said in court records filed Tuesday .
Even after he followed the two career criminals’ orders, police allege that one of them stabbed him in the chest. All the while his mother, Gwen Pitcairn, listened as her son – just two days shy of his 24th birthday – pleaded with the robbers .
Afterward, the pair went home, apparently so proud of what they had done they bragged to witnesses, saying they had robbed and “hurt” a “white boy,” according to the court records.

Essence Magazine has been called out by some of its readership and supporters for reportedly hiring a white Fashion Director… Ellianna Placas, formerly ofO: The Oprah Magazine and US Weekly is said to be starting at the magazine in September, although Essence hasn’t made an official announcement. But just the speculation prompted writer Michaela angela Davis to tweet: “It is with a heavy heavy heart I have learned that Essence magazine has engaged a white fashion director, this hurts, literally, spiritually.”

As police on Staten Island continue to investigate a string of bias attacks in Port Richmond, the latest victim is speaking out exclusively to NY1.
The 40-year-old Mexican man says he was attacked Friday night after walking home from Faber Park.
He says he was beaten by five men who yelled anti-Mexican comments and made off with his backpack.

The victim, who has lived in the country for more than five years, says he does remember bits and pieces of the moments leading up to the attack. He says he had just finished up a soccer match at the park and was simply heading home when he was approached by a group of young black men.
He says the attack was part of a pattern that needs to be stopped.

A 14-year-old Palm Bay boy could be charged with a hate crime. Police say he attacked a white man just because he was listening to rap music.
The boy beat up the 22-year-old man because he didn’t think white people should listen to rap music, police said. The man told WFTV he was listening to “Wasted” by Gucci Mane.
David McKnight did not fight back when 14-year-old Joshuah Lamb punched him in the face repeatedly, investigators said. Battery is the only charge Lamb faces, but he could face felony hate crime charges.
