orig. art by William Steig

UPDATE: I wasn’t sure who’d illustrated the piece, but when asked in the comments, I checked the book. It wasn’t directly attributed and I checked the text itself and was mistaken in attributing it to Donald Hardman. The list of illustrations in the front of the book states “At times Leeteg referred to this as his ‘guardian angel.’” with no attribution.
The line from the book read: “Framed and prominently displayed in his Tahiti studio was a copy of a famous World War II cartoon given to him by the equally famous artist, Donald Hardman.”
